I recently spoke to one of our colleagues who is on the front lines of helping palliative care patients during the COVID pandemic. She is a tireless worker and goes way above expectations to serve the needs of her patients. When I spoke to her recently, she sounded exhausted…though ready to keep going. During the conversation, she mentioned that on top of everything that was going on , it snowed in the area where she lives. Then she said something very interesting. While the snow was not a welcome change, it was actually a break from the exhausting routine that forced her and her colleagues to pause. She expressed gratitude to be able to spend a few moments out of the hospital to connect with nature. More so due to the lack of being able to connect with patients as we are able to under normal circumstances. It sounded like a warm experience although the temperatures were low!
